Not getting shortlisted This might be why.

Not getting shortlisted This might be why. I recently supported a local business with their recruitment. I had 54 applicants respond to the job advertisement. 50 of the 54 had the technical skills to do the job. So why did only 7 made the short list? These 7 made an effort to demonstrate and highlight their skills and experience relevant to what I was looking for. If the advertising company designs domestic housing â€" don’t highlight your experience with industrial warehouses or multi-storey retail buildings. Detail and promote your experience and interest in domestic housing. Most applicants attached a CV that read like it was applying for a different job â€" or any job. They listed all of their skills, even the outdated ones. Your CV should focus only on the skills relevant to the job you are applying for. 17 of the applicants did not include a cover letter. With more than 50 CV’s to review, first impressions are important. A generic CV and no covering letter suggests limited interest or commitment to the position. Local business, or any business are looking for confirmation you want their job, you can do their job and you understand how to be successful in their job. A generic CV in a competitive job market will not get you shortlisted. Tips from my recruitment experience • Take some time to read the job advertisement and google the company. Ensure you understand the job. Identify the key skills they are looking for. • Tailor your CV for the job. If the company designs domestic housing â€" highlight your relevant experience. Mention your interest and expertise in domestic housing. Give details on the first page of your CV and in your cover letter. • Always include a covering letter â€" keep it brief but explain what about the job interests you and demonstrate what strengths you bring relevant to the requirements for the job. It is a competitive job market. Spend some time on your applications and approach each application with purpose. Ensure you understand the job specifics and clearly demonstrate your skills and experience relevant to the job.

Machines cant replace these 2 human qualities, one expert says

Machines can't supplant these 2 human characteristics, one master says Machines can't supplant these 2 human characteristics, one master says As Artificial Intelligence is set to spread into our workplaces, a large number of us are left considering what the machine deluge will mean for our industries and, maybe, our jobs. The much-foreseen book by Kai-Fu Lee, AI Superpowers: China, Silicon Valley, and the New World Order comes out one week from now â€" as does the whole of Thrive Global's original video arrangement with Lee in which he shares his hypotheses (and admonitions) about the eventual fate of the working environment. So reviewing schoolwork, evaluating tests, giving us tests, giving a similar tal k over and over. Those should be possible by AI, Lee told Recode. However, this doesn't mean educators will vanish. It implies they will probably concentrate on one-on-one preparing and mentorship, on the human part of instructing that requires the affectability of empathy and the adaptability of innovativeness, he explains.Envisioning this new expert scene is an energizing chance to associate with our own humankind and the mankind of others. It proposes a world where the sorts of things that permit us to flourish â€" network, motivation, assortment â€" will be organized in our work. This potential for a working world in which it's simpler to discover satisfaction doesn't nullify the difficulty numerous people will look as the employments they buckle down in are wiped out. Instruction, social needs, and preparing frameworks should find the AI revolution. But for those of us contemplating it now, we have a couple of proposals for developing the empathy and inventiveness Lee says will k eep on being so crucial.Read more fictionStudies show that perusing a novel can help increment both sympathy and innovativeness. The science shows that our minds procedure the encounters of characters in a novel a similar way they process living through those encounters â€" and keeping in mind that a ton of the examination centers around the transient indications of this process, research also proposes the impacts are enduring. This implies you are actually venturing into somebody's point of view when you read, and afterward conveying that involvement in you a while later, learning sympathy. The associations our psyches make as we process language and story, as well, are profoundly innovative. What's more, when you pick the right book, perusing is extraordinarily fun (and psyche expanding.)JournalBy helping you procedure and discover importance in the franticness of day by day life, journaling is an incredible method to build up the capacity to make inventive associations and consid er outside daily schedule. It shouldn't be the occasionally repetitive order of day camp journaling. Indeed, even simply recording a couple of contemplations or perceptions consistently can help. Utilize your iPhone notes or, even better, get a little note pad you can heft around in your pack, and scribble down certain considerations for the duration of the day. You'll be shocked at what comes out.Listen â€" truly tune in â€" to your loved ones time with your loved ones is significant not simply to advise you that you are associated and adored, yet in addition to assist you with practicing sympathy. How to successfully relocate anywhere - Copeland Coaching

How to successfully relocate anywhere I hope you had a beautiful weekend. With the weather starting to warm up, many people are beginning to consider their next big move. But, for some, their only relocation experience as an adult came when they moved away to college, or for their first job.The idea of relocating can be daunting for many, as they arent sure where to begin. An Oklahoma native, I remember my grandmother visiting me in Los Angeles after I moved there for graduate school. How did you ever even think to think of this? she asked. Since leaving Oklahoma, Ive relocated to 5 different states: New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and California. Not once did I ever know a single person in any of the places I moved to. All of this relocating helped me to develop best practices for how to relocate successfully. 1. Dont move without a job. Unless you have no other option, dont move to a new city where you have no contacts without a job in place. Youll lose your current network, and increase the likelihood youll be forced to take a job thats beneath your skill level. Moving without a job is one of the one of the worst pieces of advice I hear family members and friends giving out freely. Consider the source, and dont do it. Ive never received this advice from anyone who has moved to a new city without a job. 2. Look for existing connections. Often, we forget when friends or colleagues relocate to other cities or we miss it altogether. They may have moved away years ago. Check LinkedIn and Facebook for existing connections you have in your new city. Reach out to them, and let them know youre trying to move. They can often help to plug you in. 3. Start growing your network. Reach out to new people in your new city. An easy place to start is with headhunters. Then, check the local chapters of national organizations youre associated with in your current city. E-mail their president and other officers to open up new connections. 4. Plan a trip. Visiting your new city will help solidify next steps, and will show how serious you are to your network and potential employers. It will also give you an idea of where you want to live and work, and how much money youll need to maintain your current standard of living. 5. Schedule meetings. Before you travel, set up appointments with recruiters and networking contacts. Ideally, schedule 2-4 meetings per day youre there. It can be tiring, but its worth the investment of your time. Its much easier to connect in person than from thousands of miles away. 6. Attend networking events. Rather than spending your evenings as a tourist (which would be a great idea if you werent trying to permanently move there), look up local networking events. Check sites like Meetup.com and EventBrite.com to get the scoop on your new city. When you attend events, take the time to meet new people and exchange business cards. This step may feel scary, but you can do it. Attending an event alone is an excellent way to meet new people. 7. Follow up. When you return home, take the time to follow up with your connections new and old. Reminding your new network of who you are, and what youre looking for. Attach your resume, so they can easily forward it on to others. Whatever you do, understand that a successful move is a process that takes time. This is especially true if you want to relocate to a popular city with a more competitive job market. Following these steps will not only ensure you land a job in your new city, but it will also create a network of contacts wholl be there to greet you when you arrive. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. Happy hunting! Angela Copeland @CopelandCoach
